BRIO54, a design-driven development firm, recently began construction on a prototype of their H4 design in Milford, Connecticut. The firm took the H4 through extensive planning and fine tuning in order to construct something with style and a light environmental footprint. The 2,264 square-foot, three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bathroom home should be quite energy efficient.
BRIO54′s H4 prototype will be built with a tight envelope and R49 flooring, R26 walls, and R49 roofing. The zebra finish shown is accomplished with alternating charcoal gray and arctic white Hardie Plank lap siding (which is a bold choice, indeed).
Other planned green elements include a forced air closed-loop geothermal system, HRV and HEPA filter, humidifier, solar hot water system, tankless water heating, Energy Star appliances, WaterSense plumbing fixtures, Anderson Smart Sun windows, no-VOC paints, cabinetry made with PureBond, and bamboo flooring.
BRIO54 is publishing behind the scenes video of the entire construction process on their site, From A to Z. Should be fun to follow the progress. The H4 prototype is being built at 162 Hillside Avenue in Milford, Connecticut.
