With such a warm response to one of our recent “Zem’s List” weekly newsletters about some of Zem’s favorite haute handmade jewelry pieces, we thought we’d offer up a few this week to our subscribers. Jessica of J. Fein Designs, has offered one of her black rose rings (pictured on the lovely Miss Rachel Ray below). One of the most popular designs from her collection, the sustainable wood base is paired with a funky, reinvented heirloom piece for finger candy that’s both whimsical and elegant.

And for the décolletage? We’ve got one of A. Alicia’s newest pieces, the wishbone necklace. A vintage brass chain supports a delicate piece of knitted chord (handmade from organic fair trade cotton). Great for layering or as a simple statement piece on its own! We’ll be drawing a winner next Monday (9/20/2010) so make sure you’re signed-up!

We are thrilled to announce the start of a new feature on ecofabulous. While we occasionally cover men’s fashion and lifestyle products, we are often asked for more of the ecofabulous man – not just by men themselves, but by stylish and sustainable ladies looking to outfit their guys (and since female consumers make a majority of the purchasing decisions, we wanted to make sure we’re providing all the relevant info needed to make conscious choices). Given that the current ecofab team is sans male voice, we turned to our friend (and long-time blog crush) Brad Bennett over at Commerce with a Conscience.

As the founder and editor of a daily ethical menswear blog and curator of the Commerce with a Conscience Product Guide, the internet’s only men’s-specific socially responsible shopping resource, we thought there would be no one better to share top men’s finds than him. Completely devoted to finding products of quality and longevity, Brad has long since refused to support companies whose ethics lie outside of his own. As Brad put it himself, “I work damn hard for my money, so why should I throw it away on something shoddily made or detrimental to the things I hold dear?” Brad’s new feature, “The Gentlemen’s Green” will consist of a twice-monthly round-up of the best of the best from Commerce with a Conscience.

So he’s as obsessed with researching as we are. But what gets the ecofabulous team in such a flutter? The fact that his picks are always on-trend from a design and fashion perspective and on-point from a social responsibility stance. A “one-man crusade against self-congratulatory logo tees and butt ugly recycled accesories,” we can rest assured that Brad’s curation will meet the style standards our readers have come to expect.

Brad lives in Chicago with his girlfriend, composting worms, and many house-plants (what’s not to love!).

The last in a 3-part series of videos filmed at the MODERN LIVING Showhouse at Dwell on Design takes us through 5 of Zem’s tips for designing a green kitchen. Presented by Electrolux, the video walks us through the showhouse kitchen and highlights a few of the ways the ecofabulous team incorporated energy-efficiency, water conservation and recycled materials into her stylish design.

For more information on the products in the house, check out the interactive photo tour where you can click on the objects in the house to learn why they’re eco and why they’re fabulous, and where to get them!

While still on the search for a product that will actually give us longer legs, in the meantime, we’ll be satisfied with discovering the secret to picture perfect, thick, flowing, lustrous hair. From the depths of the Amazon forest comes the Rahua (ra-wa) nut from which restorative oils are found that revitalize and repair hair cuticles leaving you with smooth and oh-so-silky strands.

The Rahua line, based on this potent beauty secret from the Amazon, was developed by renowned stylist and colorist, Fabian Lliguin, a native Ecuadorian with a deep-rooted relationship with the Amazonian forest (he’s also the founder of ecoagents, a non-profit created to defend and protect the Amazon Rainforest, its people and ancient culture from damage, pollution, and further destruction).

But the rahua nut isn’t the only wonder ingredient used in the product line. The Rahua shampoo ($32) contains sea salt to gently exfoliate and improve scalp circulation, while the conditioner ($34) uses green tea to protect from UV-ray exposure. For a complete strengthening solution, try the finishing treatment ($45) with raspberry leaf extract (antioxidants that nourish and repair) and rice bran wax (retains moisture). For super stressed locks, there’s the Rahua Elixir – a 1 oz. bottle of highly concentrated rahua nut oil and ungurahua oil – that promises to restore hair to gorgeous in 15 minutes ($175).

iPad cover, check. iPhone cover, check. What other tech accessory could you possibly need? Why earphones, of course. From the design team at Vers Audio comes the Vers 1E, sound isolation earphones with a microphone and a touch of sustainable wood or bamboo.

For anyone that’s ever had problems with their headset, not being able to hear well enough, or worse – hearing everything around you way too much – this is your sound solution. The earphones ($49.99) feature an “in-ear passive noise cancellation design” that blocks 90% of surrounding sound (literally it’s a bit of a shock at first!), and comes in a great felt-lined recycled metal carrying case. And as with all of the Vers accessories, the piece features sustainably sourced bamboo or wood of your choice with the promise to re-plant 100 trees for each purchase through the Arbor Day foundation.

This week we’re GIVING AWAY two earphone sets to ecofabulous subscribers (we’ll be drawing names on Monday the 13th). So make sure you’re signed-up, then get ready to tune out the world, tune in to your own playlist or conversation, and trust that your musical taste, or last night’s gossipy details, will be kept private as well.

Naps are a treat no matter where you lay your head, but a lazy afternoon snooze in the sun? Few things in life bring such simple pleasure.

We’ve seen eco-friendly hammocks before (you can find them made of recycled fiber, or hemp) but nothing quite caught our eye like the TING Sling ($744) made out of reclaimed seatbelt material. Available in an array of cheery tones like hot pink, turquoise, and lime green, this Sunday afternoon snoozer is not only super durable but will add a little pop to your back porch decor and bring hours of eco-friendly relaxation.

Couple the Sling with a few cubes or pillows for a bright outdoor oasis all your own.

Available at a number of retail locations, or online.
