Last year, we mentioned a community of 23 solar-powered homes, The Mews in Atwater Village, under construction in Los Angeles, California.  We now have some images of the model home and news that The Mews will have grand opening this weekend from 1-5 pm on Saturday and Sunday.  Each home comes standard with a grid-connected, 1 kW solar photovoltaic system, as well as three bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms.

In addition to solar, which can be upgraded to a 3 kW system, these Corsini + Stark-designed homes include extensive
daylighting, operable clerestory windows, natural ventilation,
Grasscrete permeable paving, bamboo flooring, drought tolerant
landscaping, and energy efficient appliances.

Because of the much talked about small lot ordinance in the area, the
developer was able to put The Mews together at a more approachable price.  Indeed, according
to a recent press release, these homes will cost about $100 per square foot
less than the average Atwater Village home.

The Mews each have about 1,500 – 1,600 square feet of space (not including the garage), and if you’re in the market for green living, this seems like a stylish prospect.  Pricing starts from $599,000.
